Fossil-free energy

Since 1956 we have been heating all our hot water and also our premises with waste heat from the ovens. In Dalarna we have a fantastic amount of renewable energy, so we run our entire bakery with wind and hydroelectric power from the surrounding nature. Since 2013, we have been completely fossil-free.

It also ensures that our crispbread is of the highest quality.

All the energy we use in the bakery comes from wind, hydro and bioenergy. We started using the heat from the ovens to heat the premises as early as 1952. Today we are almost self-sufficient in terms of heat.

We also heat the domestic hot water with recovered energy from the air compressors. Today, we reuse 95% of our waste heat.

Sustainability as a tradition

For us at Leksand Knäckebröd, sustainability is a tradition. We want to both preserve and develop it. Because we think it’s important to think about the world today – and what we leave behind for our children.
